Incorrect voltage to solenoids?

Recently the solenoid valves have been very noisy and taking approx 20 seconds to open after the temp at the reducer has reached 30°C. I've monitored the voltage and discovered this is because the voltage is initially only about 5V, therefore causing the solenoids to open and close repeatedly until after about 20 seconds when the voltage jumps up to the correct 12V+ and the solenoids eventually stay open.

Any ideas about what might be causing this? Maybe a bad earth or a poor connection somewhere?

Any advice would be very much appreciated

Thanks for the quick reply Brian.

Wonder why it's only started making such a loud noise now if this voltage behaviour is common for the Bigas ECU. I've already bench tested and stripped the valve, thinking it may have been sticking, which it wasn't.

I had previously considered adding a relay or two as the noise is a bit embarrassing, especially with a less thank full tank amplifying the noise.

It may help to check the underlay if appropriate has been used if the tank is inside, though would suspect not a lot you could do about it overall. Where is the tank installed and what kind of tank is it? If its an external tank you may find fitting a cover over the valvework helps to deaden the noise if theres not one already there.

Its strange you report it seems to have changed though - maybe someone can answer with that (i'd suspect a sticking valve to be quieter if anything).

It's a doughnut tank that has replaced the spare wheel in the boot and it has no additional insulation under or around the tank. I'll check to see if anything metallic has fallen down next to the tank, which is vibrating and causing the noise.

I'll also look into adding some sound deadening and/or sound insulation.

There should be something underneath the tank if its resting on the boot floor effectively anyway - like this below

Only other thought is if anything could be put ontop of the tank to deaden the noise, though the boot carpet should kill alot of the sound.
