Fault Code P0141

#1 Post by smokie1010 » Fri May 27, 2016 11:48 am

I have a 2006 1.6 Astra with a BRC Fly Sequent System. I have had the EML come on with Fault Code P0141. I clear it but it just comes back.

According to my book that Fault Code relates to Lambda Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2 which I would presume is the one after the cat. Presumably this just needs replacing? Also, as the Emissions test for the MOT doesn't measure Lambda would I be right in thinking that the Lambda Sensors don't do anything whilst running on LPG? Reason I ask is that although the EML is on with that Fault Code the car seems to run okay with no misfires or anything or is it effecting fuel consumption.

Thanks

The code does refer to the heater circuit on your lambda probe (the one after the cat) being broken.

It is very likely that replacing that lambda probe will solve the issue.

Other things that could cause the same code would be if your probe isn't plugged in properly, or there's damage to the wiring, or your petrol ECU is at fault (random codes then appear on Vauxhalls)...

The post cat lambda probably won't effect emissions anyway. The other (pre cat) lambda does effect emissions, the post cat lambda is pretty much there just to confirm the catalytic converter is working properly on most vehicles. If your vehicle continues to run in closed loop mode with the post cat lambda probe problem then your emissions shouldn't be affected (most will continue to run closed loop with this code but some don't).

With your type of LPG system the lambda probes effect fuelling as much on LPG as on petrol - but read the above.

Thanks for the reply and the extra info, always learning. I have changed the sensor and it seems to have cured it.

The wiring on my post cat probe came out of it's clip and became damaged, being January with an imminent MOT the broken wires got "lost" in a length of 12mm trunking, surprisingly no connection meant no faults logged which means no OBD2 light, even after 6 months.

And that reminds me, I've got some cable to repair.
