Lpg tank just exploded!!!!!

#1 Post by ade h »

Hi, was working in the garden today and all of a sudden heard loud hissing and lpg smoke everywhere,it leaked out for about 5 mins and i could clearly see a hole in the tank where there was a patch of rust. Has anyone else had this happen as ive never heard of it, good job i wasnt driving at the time. How much is a tank going to set me back and what are they like to fit. It is on a frontera v6 and is mounted underneath at the back about 75 litres i think. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

And that's why tanks only have a 10 year life span.

Never heard of it happening, but I have condemned a six year old tank due to external rust. I think that vehicle had been used for boat launching.

Have a look at the plate on the tank if its not to rusty to read! It should tell you the size of the it, failing that get your tape measure out, then have a look on tinleytechs web shop, you will see the tanks and valves on there and of course the prices. Fitting wise, could be a bit of a struggel getting the old one out, might be worth cutting the straps and replaceing them to. And as they say in the Haynes manual.... refitting is a reversal of removal ! Have fun!! :D

So it didn't really explode, just decided to vent itself. Driving along you wouldn't have noticed anything until you ran out of fuel.
