They both had the same engine covers. Only difference was the 110 has an intercooler.

I'm a big 406 enthusiast. I've owned 3 and moderate on the 406oc forum.
The only 406 that was fitted with a DPF was the 2.2HDi (136). The 2.0HDi was never fitted with a DPF but was availible in two flavours. 110bhp and 90bhp. What I suspect is your colleague had a 110 and you had a 90.

MK3 Mondeos never had a DPF.
The smoke you see is just build up inside the exhaust manifolds, turbo vanes, CATs etc.

I like diesels. I do 20k-30k per year and the low down grunt and good range makes life much easier.
I generally don't care what comes out of the back end of my car, it really isn't a concern for me. However as odd as it sounds I do like how clean my Euro6 diesel appears to be.

The 1.25 is a Sigma or Zetec S/SE. Modernish engine made of aluminium and designed by Yamaha with 16v.

The Endura-E is an old engine from the 60's. Has push rod calve train and is made from cast iron with a cylinder capacity of 1.3 litres.

How do you get a smooth transition between Petrol and LPG with a carburetor? Do you have to switch off the petrol pump and wait until the bowl is empty in the carburetor before switching it over?

I suspect you are in the minority then. I fully expect a fairly hefty increase in road fuel duty on diesel in the next budget to negate the economy of a diesel. No matter how you do it, while the particulates are being caught by the DPF, then it's going to be clean, but it has to empty out sooner ...

I don't think diesels are going anywhere personally.
I think older diesels however will be priced off the road.
Diesel technology will keep getting more and more advanced and even more complicated for those high mileage drivers who see diesel as the only option.

Do 4 strokes actually use much less fuel compared to 2 strokes out on the water?
I imagine you'd have to have double the size for similar outputs.

Do you get any issues with the lower octane of the LPG abroad?

Could you install a smaller jet in the carb and run a very high ratio of petrol to two stroke oil. Effectively the engine would be running lean so then you could introduce the extra fuel needed with a mixer plate.
