Re: Zavolli system running lean/missing on BMW 4.4 V8

I reckon you're right Gordon. As soon as it switches over it jumps to its upper limit, switch to petrol and it immediately drops to a normal temp.

I had the harness connector off the Zavoli ECU and did resistance and continuity checks on the wires from the temp sensor and all seemed good. I then ...

Re: Zavolli system running lean/missing on BMW 4.4 V8

Well, at least I have a hard fault now, after changing the coil on the solenoid. Not long after switching over to gas, it bleeps and switches back over to petrol. The Zavoli software shows an error for the water temp sensor. I've replaced the water temp sensor in the top of one of the reducers and ...

Re: Zavolli system running lean/missing on BMW 4.4 V8

Spoke too soon - I still get the Check Engine Light when driven on LPG. When I check the BMW ECU it comes back with errors that it has reached the limit of adaptation for correcting lean running, this happens at around 2750rpm, which is under load as it cruises at 85mph on a motorway at around ...

Re: Zavolli system running lean/missing on BMW 4.4 V8

I've replaced the liquid side filter in the solenoid/shut off valve between the tank and vaporisers and so far so good. It was a pain to get to buried down the side of the engine bay and needed the offside wheel and inner wheel arch removing to get to the nuts holding the retaining bolts in place ...

Re: Zavolli system running lean/missing on BMW 4.4 V8

Thanks Rossko. This was why I changed the gas side inline filters. I have not yet changed the liquid side filter, which I think is under the blue solenoid in the picture I posted.

Edit - I've cleaned it up and can see it's a Valtek Type 1 shut off valve, so have ordered a filter kit. The outer ...

Re: Zavolli system running lean/missing on BMW 4.4 V8

Yes, I did find that a bit odd. On petrol they are far more evenly matched at around 3.5ms all the time. The Petrol ECU is picking up that it runs lean on both banks when on LPG though.

I wondered if the oily deposit is enough to make the injector paddles stick occasionally, causing the misfire and ...

Zavolli system running lean/missing on BMW 4.4 V8

Hi all, I wondered if anyone had any ideas on a running issue I've got.

I have a Zavoli system with 2 X vaporisers feeding 2 separate Matrix 4 pot injector blocks. It's been running fine for the last 10,000 miles after cleaning the injectors and replacing the worn foil strips in the injectors. All ...

Matrix MJ-XJM injector service kits

There is another thread about this but it's over 2 years old, so I thoguht I'd better start a new one rather than resurrect the old one here....

During cleaning I managed to partially tear the foil comb shaped shim on one of my injectors ...

Re: BMW poor running when cold-car or LPG ??

It's not quite pre obd, my e39 is obd1 but technocally its obd2 only difference is the connection, the outputs are the same, but the software I have is able to interface with the e31, e34, e38, e39, e43, e60 and quite a few other models including the mini and done rolls Royce models. As for the e34 ...

Re: No LPG in Kent South of Maidstone.

I'll add them to filllpg if I'm down that way and can confirm they actually still do LPG. I get all over the place with work so tend to end up filling up in pretty much any part of the uk. And with a tank thats only got 240 miles range at best it tends to be quite often. If you find they do work in ...

Re: No LPG in Kent South of Maidstone.

Thanks for that.
The United Taxi's one could be usefull as it's only a few miles from Ashford.

Shell Channel Gateway had ran out at the weekend so I rang them on Monday. They were expecting a delivery on Tuesday.
I rang them today to check they had fuel and they have ran out again!

They reckon ...

Re: No LPG in Kent South of Maidstone.

Nope. Just looked at that and still the only 2 stations south of Maidstone are Hythe and Dover.

Hythe is the one which 3 times out of 4 had no LPG and Dover (25 miles away) is shut for 6 weeks.
Considering Ashford is on the main motorway to the channel tunnel and cross channel, it does seem odd ...

No LPG in Kent South of Maidstone.

This is madness. I live in Ashford, in Kent, which has no LPG stations that I can find. The nearest station to me is about 12 miles down the motorway at Junction 11 of the M20. The problem with this station is that, either they don't really want to sell LPG or it's very poorly ran.

It's a Shell ...

Re: BMW740i 4.4 M62tub44 with Zavoli N LPG rough when cold.

I've upped the change over to 65 degrees and now even on a really cold morning there's only a momentary blip now.

I decided to give the Matrix injectors a clean, so followed some descriptions I found on here. I couldn't see any coil springs in mine though. When I took the outer plate off with ...

Re: BMW740i 4.4 M62tub44 with Zavoli N LPG rough when cold.

Up the changeover to 65. And make sure 'tank soleniod with dedicated wire' is ticked. Sometimes the sequential fuel change over can cause problems so try it either way. Filters generally show up at high rpm. But too cold a change over can cause problems with sticky injectors first thing. Just ...

Re: BMW740i 4.4 M62tub44 with Zavoli N LPG rough when cold.

no visible balancing connector for gas.
Check again, it may (should!) take the form of a smallbore hose linking the injector banks.

Any tendency to run cold will encourage wax trapping (like short journeys etc), be sure the engine thermostat is working properly.

Yep, you're spot on. There's a ...

Re: BMW740i 4.4 M62tub44 with Zavoli N LPG rough when cold.

Spot on. That's made it clear.

I'm going to see if the Vap with the temp sensor warms up first, which I suspect is does, then swap the sensor to the Vap which warms up a bit slower.

Thanks for that. :D

Re: BMW740i 4.4 M62tub44 with Zavoli N LPG rough when cold.

Ah, thanks. I'm beginning to understand this a lot better now.
I hadn't realised the bigger rubber hoses where the feed from the car's water system, the thin rubber hoses were just vacuum/pressure pipes and the gas feed was just a thin copper pipe.

Yes, there are 2 X Zeta Vaps, no visible balancing ...

Re: BMW740i 4.4 M62tub44 with Zavoli N LPG rough when cold.

Thanks Tubbs,

I changed the switchover reducer temp to 65 degrees C, at which point the gas is about 24 degrees C. The engine had been used a couple of hours before though so wasn't stone cold.

It switched back to petrol a couple of times even though the reducer temp was still over 65 degrees, so ...

BMW740i 4.4 M62tub44 with Zavoli N LPG rough when cold.

Hi guys, first post.

I've had a good search about this problem on here and have a few pointers. I just wanted to ask a couple of questions if I could?

I bought a 740i 4.4 V8 with LPG last summer. It needed a bit of work on the engine so I took it off the road in September to replace the cam chains ...
