Happens each time when at high revs WOT acceleration - no such symptoms on petrol - its as if the gas is struggling to keep up when the engine is at the top end of the rev range with full bore acceleration requested by the driver.

I'm after an Irene 680mm dia 270mm height torodal tank please - with standard single 30 deg flange for multivalve.

Need to be specific on brand (I think) so the replacement tank will match the holes I've got drilled for my existing Irene 680/240 tank - which I'm discovering is too small ...

Your supplier should be at hand to give you tech support? I sell DIY kits with very thorough tech support included, I even do the calibration and documentation. Have drilled hundreds of BMW 4.4 V8 manifolds.

Just a quick report after around 500 miles and a good few tanks of gas and just under 600 odd miles of running.

I had a coolant leak from the rear coolant hoses that feed the reducer. I had used T peices that were of too small a diameter - and the clamping force on the jubilee cip must have been ...

Yikes.... that rad! If not impact damage, then its distending really badly, just like mine did:

My solution will be as follows:

20x4mm (or 6mm dependent on locating longer bolts for the tank) flat steel bar spreaders, each with one hole - for the existing tank bolts, aligned to cross the wheel well from left to right if viewed from behind the car, so that the bars sit on each ridge that's ...

I'm having a hard time visualising these solutions in my mind, and am wondering if anyone has any photos of solutions to this issue for BMW E38/E39 cars? Copious googling shows only that single hole toroidal tanks can be used - but not how people solve ...

Actually Si, was hoping for your input on my BMW thread (the 740i thread - and latest question re: securing the tank)? This one isn't my car!

Forgive my ignorance here; but I've seen a couple of posts recently on various forums where folks have been told a filler cannot be installed in a bumper due to 'new regs' or a 'change in the law'.

Thanks to all for the advice and observations so far.

One final thing I need to sort is properly securing the tank in place. It's been pointed out a couple of times that centre of the turret is not a permanent piece of the rest of the wheel well, and is bonded in.

Minor update after a week or so's running:

2x mopre clips under wheel well for fill/outlet lines. Was paranoid about damaging the tank - so tapped through with a tiny drill bit, used it as a depth gauge and then cut the heads of my p-clip bolts to make sure they wouldn't interfere with the tank ...

VSI1 and struggling to remember but reckon it will have been the 4.4.

Vanos doesn't really make any difference from an install point of view... unlike Valvetronic. Don't remember ever seeing an X5 with cable operated throttle, thought they were all electronic.

Not much doubt on this install that ...

Is it the x5 4.4v8? Is it VSI 1 or VSI 2 gear?

If so, engine essentially identical to the 4.4v8 in my car - subject to changes like introduction of vanos, use of electronic throttle body, rather than manual TB with cables, more sensors, etc

That blue silicone vac hose - is it not reducer pressure ...

Not a bad idea but can imagine thoughts of others as multiple fire extinguishers are positioned beside the vehicle on the forecourt - What's up here then, risque fire breathing show perhaps... :lol:

Delighted to say that since my last substantive post, my LPG conversion is complete and appears to be working!

Essentially, since the last post with pictures in it - I got busy at work again, and the car had to play second fiddle. There were a couple of tasks still remaining to get the conversion ...

Was it my conversion of an E38 740i to LPG using 2nd hand Prins VSI 2.0 gear? If so, I''ve got some happy news to report on my coversion - only from today, will update the thread momentarily, but short news is - it works!
