Upon reading that thread, one possibly could have been due to the weight distribution of the pump upon the dish adapter.

Decided to head down to France this bank holiday.
I was able to source a dish adapter and was able to successfully top the car up. I did end up dropping the adapter from a low height - no visible damage.

Is there a suction device that exists that applies pressure to the button to refill the car? Or, would a plastic pin work?

Pre-99, use NGK BPR6ES, 99 or later use NGK PFR6N-11. Service you'd normally expect the filters changing. They last a fair while but do eventually clog up.

Is the starting issue still apparent if you run it on petrol for a few minutes before switching off? If so it's likely either the reducer or injectors are leaking gas slightly into the manifold ...
