I have had LPG for many years now and constantly hear myths, miss-information and downright bull and LPG.
What funny things have you heard?

At an independent Saab specialists, "if you are running it on LPG, the valves will be burnt out in 10,000 miles." Me, "but it was converted at 90,000 miles and now has 240,000 on the clock and has never even had the head off." Shrug of the shoulders, walks off and ignores me from that moment on.

Ha ha, thats why scientists and experts are in charge of these decisions not the guy who pumps gas for minimum wage.

I could understand that as my local co-op forecourt, but then again any station that has leaky pipes under ground from the tanks is going to have problems. someone didn't know to isolate it at the tank I guess. They had one gas leak a couple of years back that had the place closed for a week and for a day the industrial estate was closed too, then and it happened again a day after it re-opened. The pumps even when they did work where never right, after many attempts to fix it they have switched off the lpg pumps removed the LPG hoses for now.

Still LPG is much much safer then petrol in it's liquid state, and still harder to ignite than petrol as a gas.

My car now has over 100,000 mile on LPG, as long as the regular maintenance is good, and the LPG system is setup well in the first place. I wouldn't want to be without LPG.

Thats not the fuels fault - its the installation of the pumps obviously! Flogas seem to have a problem with maintaince - Several of their forecourts have given up as the pumps rarely work. The one in Lymington being one, Witham being another where it never worked properly if it did work.

The local Shell (which is a Flogas station not a Calor one) when it had its refit took around 3 months to get a pipe they broke repaired (digger went through it) - To me thats something that should be able to be fixed within a couple of hours at worst (you know where the break was after all!) once the engineer was onsite - even that should be able to be managed within a couple of weeks at worst case. It was broken again recently and again it took over a month to get it sorted out.

Phone call I just received...

'Just had my taxi converted to LPG, when I drive on LPG my tongue goes yellow and I get indigestion, this doesn't happen when I drive on petrol, would you be able to check for leaks using a gas analyser?'. 'Can you smell gas or fumes?'... 'No but there must be a leak because my tongue goes yellow'.

I had the opposite on my old Range Rover Classic. In common with many, the upper tailgate frame was getting a bit rusty and the gas struts had lost their gas so I had to hold it up with one hand or it dropped back down. I replaced the gas struts but then found that unless I gave it a really good slam (not always a good idea with a glass tailgate surrounded by a pretty flimsy, well rusted, steel frame) it would come open if I hit a decent sized bump. Not too much of a problem as I would just find the next lay-by and close it again. Until one day I was on the M25 so no lay-bys, running on petrol as I'd miscalculated my range and ran out of gas earlier than expected and the tailgate popped open. Damn near gassed myself on the exhaust fumes! That never happened when running on gas......

It's not that with the money he's saved by running on LPG he's buying several packets of Wotsits at the filling station and eating them all in the car? :lol:

It's no cheaper to run than diesel once you do the maths.
Which annoyed me because the guy was mathemarically literate, just ignorant of the costs of lpg.

Also "Well where would you buy it from?"
So I say "you know the third price on petrol station signs?"
