Post subject:  Insurance for DIY conversions

I am looking at doing a DIY conversion on my Alfa 156, probably will go with TinleyTech and get them to commission and certify to UKLPG standard.

Just looking around to make sure insurance will not be a problem.

successes so far:

First Central (existing insurer) £33 extra for remaining 6 months of cover this year, no requirements about who the installer is or certification.
Firstquote 0208 5907755 not especially cheap, system must be fitted by a "professional" and needs to be UKLPG certified.
Morethan 10% discount, they just need the LPGA certificate sent to them for proof - no requirement on who the installer is

So that is good enough for me, no doubt there are others, please reply with names of other insurance companies that
are O.K with non LPGA/UKLPG installers.

Admiral did not mind me converting mine myself but wanted me to have a uklpg/lpga safety certificate done. This means the vehicle is put on the uklpg register which most insurance firms want now.

Elephant - my current insurer did not charge me any extra as ive already made numerous 'modifications'

I asked them specifically about any paperwork they required re LPGA certification etc and they said they didnt require anything.

I do intend however to have the supplier of my DIY kit to inspect and calibrate it.
