Since RAC is part of Aviva (as are Norwich Union), you'd think you'd get the same response from NU, but from what I've read, NU take a very different view to LPG conversion
To prove my point, my policy was due last week. I'd had the renewal from RAC and none of the screen scrapers could beat it. But I thought I'd try Norwich Union and see what happened. Their website couldn't cope with the LPG modification so I went through to the call centre. Cut a long story short, they were £12 more expensive than RAC. So I said to "John" (let's save the poor boy's blushes) that RAC were £12 cheaper. He said "They usually are. They're only over there (forgetting that I couldn't see them!) I can see them from my desk. Shall I transfer you to them?" And he did and so I renewed with RAC Insurance underwritten by Norwich Union rather than Norwich Union underwritten by Norwich Union.
How mad is that?
I used to think there was a complex computer programme that calculated our premiums. I actually think there's a bingo caller in the middle of the call centre with the ping pong balls whirling around a big glass sphere with premiums written on each ball.
