Registrations are no longer being accepted on the LPG Forum using the forum registration process.

This forum is now closed for any new members using the forum registration process. Since early January we have had over 500 new member requests and it is to onerous to vet every single one of these for our unpaid moderators. We are receiving a lot of queries from potential new members who are using email domains that are automatically banned as they generate too much span and I am afraid all we can say at the moment is no we cannot accept you.

We do not know the answer to this yet, but are researching a way forward which is likely to involve a switch to a new system and some downtime.

If you do wish to join the forum send an email to the forum administrator with the username you wish to use, and email address to be registered to that username. As before some email domains will not be permitted.

Appreciate the update.

If it goes to another system, will all threads be copied over?

That is the plan Simon.

Can you post email address of forum administrator then, please? A few people have asked me already!

Like I've already mentioned, people are contacting me by email to ask questions instead of becoming a member and posting on forum. I don't mind that if I get a bit of work out of it ;-)

This thread should be made a sticky under 'announcements, news and services'...

Registration on the forum has been re-activated while I work out a way to manually add new members. Please try again. Please be aware that certain email domains are not accepted such as gmail and Hotmail.

Nice one Damian, I fear the forum has been dying a slow death by lack of new new things to discuss, new discussion is started mostly by new members.

Any progress with the new forum software? If not, I wonder if it would be possible to set up a system of registration where potential new members have to send an email, on a daily basis emails received at that address are automatically responded to with 'On the first line of your reply to this email enter your chosen username, on the 2nd line of your reply to this email enter your chosen password, on the 3rd line of your reply to this email enter your answer to the question what colour is the sky on a cloud free summers day?'. Also on a daily basis, any email that comes in where the 3rd line contains only the word 'blue' are set up as user accounts on forum with username and password as asked for by the user. I'm thinking use an email client like Outlook to export emails to Exel/Access use a script in that application to do the donkey, work leaving a filtered set of new user accounts for someone (er, you ) to set up, which is probably only going to be one to set up every few days.. I'm sure it wouldn't matter to anyone to know they'd sent you their password, since you're the admin of the forum anyway but you could delete all the emails on a regular basis.
