What is the best lpg kit?

#1 Post by sportston »

I know this is really opening the floodgates but,
What is the best lpg kit for a DIY installation?
Having almost finished installation of a BRC system on my car my dad now wants me to fit one to his car too. On my car I have come across a few difficulties, one being that BRC do not like giving parts or information to anyone other than their approved fitters.
So I was wondering if it would be better to get a different system for the old man's motor.
I can tell you one thing; I won't be going second hand again.
His car is a relatively modern 24v Ford Mondeo.

ESGI, Stag, Any AEB based will be DIY and they all work, it's more the components shipped in the kit that will be problem later on...

But that above is just the ecu names, the rest of the kit is usually made by other manufacturers.

Explain please? Why do you think the components will cause problems later on?
Also what does AEB mean?

ESGI and Stag usually have cheaper components shipped with them, so they may not last as long as other equipment, but it is down to how things are setup and run and personal preference and etc etc.

AEB are an ECU manufacturer that a lot of other companies rebadge as their own, King, BiGas, Zavoli, Emer, OMVL etc.

Up to you which you choose, but any kit from Tinley, gasit, autogas pol will all be DIY friendly otherwise they wouldn't sell it you.

Had a look at the places you said but autogaspol and gasit don't show any full DIY kits on their site. Seems there aren't many that do.

I saw all of those but as I said two of them do not show any FULL kits complete with tank, valves etc.
Buying a front end kit is all very well but if you have to add a few hundred quid to get a tank, pipework, valves/level sensor, filler kit, p-clips, adaptors, interface cables etcetera ad nausium.
What initially looks like a good price, ends up being prohibitively expensive and you're forever having to down tools to go and order yet another part that you hadn't thought of.
I just want to buy a complete kit with everything I need.
Tinleytech have the right idea, just I don't know whether the old man would be willing to shell out £900.

Tis a bit like buying the TV without a screen then having to go get a screen to fit  I was pricing up new stuff earlier today and yes quality stuff costs more money but it pays for itself over time, especially if you do alot of miles, unfortunately Im skint, ish so have to make do with s/h but hopefully the research will help to reduce the cost overall

But they will do you a full front end and full rear end kit. Every car and every owner will want a different sized tank so rather than list lots of options, you buy the two ends separately. Even though they may not list specifically a rear end kit, if you were to ask for a front end kit, a tank and everything else you'll need, you should get it.

I'd certainly contact the others, and ask for an all in price. Base your final decision on not just price but on what they're like to deal with - if they takes ages getting back to you with a quote I wouldn't hold out much hope of a quick response if you have problems! FWIW I went with Gasit/FES for my kit as they seemed equally as good to deal with as Tinley Tech, just that they are only a few miles down the road from me if I need spare parts in the future.

By the way your wanting a full kit supplied, i'd suggest you buy from tinley or gasit as they will able to give you email and phone support, autogas pol don't.

I would go for stag system..very good,..half east europe drive on stag,... And its very goooood system, and most who say it will broke soon its not true..,they dont fit that system and dont know how much it fails...look to the forum all top range system fails a lot.. If I would fit prins or brc I never would say fit stag..... But I fit stag and other systems and dont see the point to fit prins or something expensive...

But Stag only make the controller, the important bits are the reducer and injectors supplied with it. Unfortunately, as the controller is cheap, it is usually bundled with cheap hardware to be sold as a budget system.

But that was pointed out right at the beginning of this thread.

As I said before, it's not true, they make everything now...

The beauty of Stag is that you can fit whatever you want, whichever suits your car.Yes they selling it with cheap components but only because they can, to get the price down. With other manufacturers you don't have that choice.
There's no problem to connect let say Keihin injectors with Stag or any other top shelf components, but there's no point to fit Keihin's to a car which would run perfect on RegFast and that what's all about in DIY, to get it right for right price.

Fair points that you raise but the fact is the guy has very little experience with lpg kits so how is he going to mix and match components when all he wants is a full kit to fit? and we (me and Gilbert) were pointing out that Stag is usually shipped with cheaper components - as you say to keep the price down.

No one is saying ESGI and Stag and other polish ecu's don't work and don't do the job, far from it i think they are capable, it's the components with them that are likely to fail before the ecu.

Yes and that's why we've got this forum for, to ask and get answer, what and how to do it.

Stag 4+
Zavoli S or KME Silver reducer
Hana,valtek34 or RegFast Injectors
That's all you need.

Calm down guys. Ding, ding end of round 1. Lol. You all make good points. It is useful to get more than one opinion, because we all have different experiences. Collating that is how you make a sensible conclusion.
Just out of interest, what opinions do you guys have on the best injectors?
Which last longest, are the most reliable, best value for money etc.?

Never seen a valtek 34 go wrong, and ive seen them up to starship miles. The reg fast are absolute carp. Hana ? All a bit new. Just because they are copies of keihin's does not make them good. Its like the difference between a hinda and a honda. The polish companies are pushing them because they are cheap. As for longevity its too early to say really.
If you mount them upside down and set the change over temp to 20 degree's im sure they will all pack up prematurely.
