The only two calor gas places anywhere near here that sell autogas have prices that vary by 13p per litre (69.9p in carlisle and 82.9p in workington).
The staff at both places say that its calor that sets the prices not them so why the difference in prices?

I sent them an email asking why the price at my local calor station hasn't dropped like the one in Carlisle and am still waiting for a reply. It can't just be demand can it?

Might be demand, might be down to the prices charged by other suppliers in the vicinity. If there's nowhere else nearby, they can charge what they like.

I asked my local Calor Centre (Preston) how a Shell forecourt could sell gas cheaper than them, and was surprised by the answer that although they are a Calor Centre, they have to buy their gas from Calor, just like any other retailer. In other words, they aren't selling Calor Gas at a Calor Centre on behalf of Calor, but are classed as independent retailers who buy their gas from Calor and sell it out to their customers - and as such, a company as big as Shell get bigger discounts on the quantities of gas they buy in, so can charge less for it.

Calor do run a scheme though where you can apply for an account. Using your example, if you open your account at Carlisle (69.9ppl) and then fill up at Workington 82.9ppl) you can get it at the price charged at your 'home' depot, ie, Carlisle's 69.9ppl. This has actually saved me a fair amount of money on my travels around the country.

I was told the calor account was just for home fuels and not vehicle use.

On a plus though the calor dealer in workington have now dropped their price by 9p/l to 73.9p. :D
