Post subject:  Need ideas for my V8 to run on LPG please!!

Hi all

I have a 1979 Dodge Van fitted with a 318 (5.2L) engine with a four barrel holley on it, will be single point injection (I believe). I have all the LPG kit apart from the mixer that fits to the top of the carb oh and the kit I have is duel fuel.

From the experience on here can I ask you to advise which mixer would be best for a duel fuel option, I had been looking at the Sprintgas Vaccuum mixers but haven't read god things on the diaphragms and they not be available for replacement.

Also any tips on the Installation itself would be very much appreciated, also nearly forgot my LPG tank is date stamped 2002 - does this man I can't use it as did I read somewhere you can only use them for 10 years?

Regards

Mark

If you've got a carb it will definitely be a single point system. Tinley Tech do a suitable mixer for a 4 barrel Holley (see the first one on this page http://www.tinleytech.co.uk/acatalog/Mi ... stems.html) but you'll need a vaporiser that is up to the job, such as an OMVL R90E. Alternatively you could go for a complete Impco system that is specifically made for big American V8 engines, although not cheap. Depending on what system you already have and what car it came off, you may not be able to reuse any of it. You certainly can't use a 2002 tank.

Like I said in the other thread I do new mixers for the 4 barrel carb. They are a simple venture but sized as not to restrict the engine so there is no need for it to removed for running on petrol. I have only ever used it with the OMVL R90 and ideally the D8 version but with your being a small engine the std version would probably still work ok. I have fitted and sold a lot of these mixers both to DIY and trade and they work perfectly. They are cheaper than some of the botched mixers out there that do not give good results and much less hassle to fit than the sprintgas. @£55 + delivery it will not break the bank.

I've fitted a lot of the mixer's Classicswede is suggesting too, work very well but you do need to extend the filter retaining bolt, not a big deal! It is difficult to obtain Sprintgas stuff these days and would be more expensive anyway but Impco stuff is more expensive still...
