LPG Forum is looking for mods and admins (was closing)

This topic has gone back and forth for a bit so skip to the next page for the latest, however in summary the forum will remain where it is. We are enlisting the help of more moderators and most importantly administrators who can approve new access requests. PM me if interested.

Damian (09/09/2018)

I am sorry to say that this forum is going to be closing down at the end of Augist 2018. I no longer have the time to maintain it and it is desperate need of a refresh, updating, and have steps taken to ensure it complies with new data regulations.

This forum has served the LPG community for a very long time and there is so much information on here so it would be a shame to see it lost. I am going to look at ways that I can create an acrhive of all the posts and keep them on-line for reference purposes.

The other LPG forum is still operating though I have no idea how active it is. The web address is http://www.lpginfo.co.uk/forum. This was setup a number of years ago by a customer who had, had a bad conversion experience who felt that lpgforum.co.uk was being biased, hence the title of the website.

Thank you to our moderators for their stirling work over the years, and of course to the members from the trade sharing their invaludable experience.

If you have any questions please email me on damian.bunn@my90.co.uk.

Damian, how about if I take it on?
I'm on holiday at the moment but am keen to keep this forum running, would enlist the help of my son (IT specialist) to update it and meet regs etc and would take over running costs.

Regards, Simon.

To keep everyone in the picture (in case anyone else would consider taking over this forum but thinks I got in first), I think Damian would rather this forum go to someone without commercial interests. Perhaps if it goes to anyone else at all...

I'm an installer so I do have commercial interests but if I did take it on I'd get others without commercial interests and with no connection to myself to do the moderation and would be looking to pass it on to some impartial person as soon as possible. I earned a good reputation on this forum and don't want that called into question by raising doubts about forum bias. Doubts about bias would mess things up for me and for this forum but I'd rather raise questions about bias in the short term (until I could pass the forum on) than see the forum go completely.

It stays at the top anyway. Is there any progress with someone else taking it on?

Not as far as I know.
27th July was the last time I heard from Damian (forum owner), told me by email he'd be on holiday for a couple of weeks.
I've emailed him since, no reply so far, I imagine he'll catch up with emails and suggestions/proposals from anyone interested in taking over this forum on his return.

I would take it on if it saves the forum.

I've not been very active for a long while as doing a lot less with LPG and much more with Volvo's but would be such a shame to loose this forum altogther

Just to let you guys know that I also contacted Damian about taking on the hosting, maintenance and support of the forum - it certainly is too good a resource to let it die.

My primary connection with the world of LPG is that I developed the FillLPG Android application (not the website, just the app) - and am currently planning a new release which will include an iOS version.

Anyway - I'm not an installer, but I am an IT professional so I'm willing and able to take the site on from a technical standpoint. What I would not be able to do is moderate the site - I have neither the time nor the insight to do so.

The offer is there but if someone else is better suited to take it on then I'm happy to stand back.

You'd get my vote @OnTheFenceDev :-)

Where's the guy who owns the FillLpg site though, isn't he interested?

Noone has heard from him in a while as far as anyone knows.

Think it might be an idea if Damien has anyway to do so from the forum software to email the active users just in case any have missed the announcement post?

I'd be up for being a mod if needed. There is so much info on here that it needs to be retained.

Dai might also want to be a moderator if someone else takes the forum over?
